Pre 1881 Sultanate of Sulu.1881-1942 Under British North Borneo Chartered Company and British Protectorate.

1942-1945 Japanese occupation.

1945-1946 British Military Administration.

1946-1963 British Crown Colony.

31st August 1963:Gained independence through the formation of Malaysia.
Population: 2.5 million = Capital City:Kota Kinabalu = Natural Attractions:Mount Kinabalu(highest in South East Asia), Sipadan Island(one of top ten dive spots in the world), Meliau Basin(the lost world), antiquated railway(the only one in Borneo), Orangutans,(only in Borneo and Sumatra) and Proboscis Monkeys(only in Borneo)
